How to cover court in real time

Is reporting on court cases in real-time in the public interest, or does it have the potential to do more harm than good? How does adding a real-time element change the role of a court reporter? What are the legal limitations around reporting directly from inside the courtroom?

  • This week, we'll be looking at issues facing real-time court reporting. Our panel will include a troupe of esteemed guests who can help shed some light on the murky--but always exciting-- reality of judicial proceedings: Lauren Johnston, managing editor of the New York Daily News; Charles Maldonado, government accountability reporter for the Lens; and Jane Kirtley, media law professor at the University of Minnesota.
